Mirics brings comprehensive ISDB-T Digital TV solutions to Latin America
Launch event in Brazil showcases strength of Mirics’ products and partnerships across region
Sao Paulo, Brazil - August 17th, 2010: Mirics, developer of FlexiTV™, the world’s first commercial software-based global TV receiver, today launched its best-in-class ISDB-T 1-Seg (mobile) and Full-Seg (terrestrial) digital TV offerings within Brazil and across Latin America with immediate availability. To support their valued customers and partners in the region, Mirics has selected OCPtech, a specialist sales and marketing company, to represent the company locally.
“Latin America is a key growth region for Mirics’ FlexiTV-based products, so it was vital for us to find a highly experienced partner who further strengthens our presence in the region,” said Jay Nunez, Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, Mirics. He added, “Mirics has unparalleled customer and partner support worldwide; expanding this to Latin America has been a top priority so we’re excited to partner with OCP and be launching multiple product offerings with unmatchable price and performance at this time.”
In order to provide comprehensive ISDB-T solutions within Latin America, Mirics and OCP have established relationships with multiple ODM partners, including Digibest, USmart, Costar and Hauppauge Computer Works.
Candy Wang, VP of Sales, Digibest said: “FlexiTV delivers a compelling solution from both a capability and cost perspective in this rapidly growing region for digital TV. We’re very excited to be partnering with Mirics and bringing their innovative product to the Latin American market.”
Ken Plotkin, CEO of Hauppauge Computer Works added: “The flexibility of Mirics’ solution is one of its key benefits. Hauppauge has already developed three product versions around FlexiTV for this market: targeting large PC OEMs looking for the lowest cost ISDB-T receivers for desktop PCs; another for desktop "drop in box" programs; and yet another for Windows 7 notebooks."
Mirics has focused on Latin America and Brazil as a key market, launching with OEM design wins already secured, immediate volume availability across the region and local manufacturing within Brazil through partnerships with Quad Core and Skycast. At the Sao Paolo launch event, OCP and Mirics demonstrated multiple product offerings based on FlexiTV, including unique Xpresscard designs manufactured locally.
Said Paul Ayscough, Founder, OCPtech: “We are always seeking unique and cutting-edge products to represent within Latin America. FlexiTV truly offers a clear and immediate price and performance advantage we’re already seeing amazing demand for. Combining this technical superiority with Mirics’ key industry partnerships and dedicated manufacturing and support within Latin America, we see huge growth potential beyond this successful launch event.”

Mirics launches FlexiStream: a new Home Media Center Platform for Windows 7
Using Windows 7 and leveraging NVIDIA GPUs, FlexiStream allows viewers to take their home TV anywhere, on any device, in any format
Sunnyvale, CA. - January 6th, 2010: Mirics today announces FlexiStream™, enabling PC users to take their home TV with them anywhere on smart phones, PMPs or netbooks. Running on Windows 7, the FlexiStream home-server is used for reception, viewing, recording, real-time re-formatting and IP- streaming of live TV to any kind of portable or handheld device. Instead of expensive hardware and proprietary set-top box technology, FlexiStream makes use of the widely available Windows 7 PC and Mirics FlexiTV™, the only production global terrestrial TV tuner solution with a sub-$5 bill-of materials. FlexiTV’s optimization for the NVIDIA CUDA™ architecture enables the NVIDIA graphics processing units (GPUs) for TV signal processing, video decoding and transcoding, while use of industry-standard streaming formats greatly simplifies the client applications.
All that is needed for TV reception is a Windows 7 PC equipped with Mirics’ universal terrestrial broadcast receiver, either as a USB accessory or integrated into the PC. TV can then be viewed or recorded in all geographies with Windows Media Center in High Definition or any other broadcast resolution. Furthermore, that same content can be re-formatted for whatever portable devices are in the household and streamed utilizing FlexiStream to those devices wherever they are, anywhere in the world.
Jay Nunez, Vice President of WW Sales and Marketing at Mirics, commented: “Mirics has simplified the process of streaming content from home with a complete end-to-end solution. From RF feed to remote LCD, Mirics delivers a global TV receiver by means of a multi-band RF front-end, revolutionary NVIDIA-assisted signal processing in software, and streaming with industry-standard protocols to a lean, fast-to-download client application. Whether it is a notebook, netbook or a touch-screen handheld, anything from that big live football game to the local news can either be watched in real-time, or a recording set up from the portable device whilst on the move. No longer is there any reason to miss anything.”
Chris Williams, Director of Program Management, Microsoft’s TV, Video and Music business group, added: “The new Windows 7 version of Windows Media Center can display or record TV in High Definition which complements the Mirics solution. FlexiTV with FlexiStream running on Windows 7 shows how Windows Media Center turns your PC into a complete entertainment system.”
“Whether at home or on the road, most of us want easy access to our audio, video and photos,” said Michael Steele, General Manager of visual consumer solutions at NVIDIA. “For TV, Mirics is making that easier and NVIDIA is making it better. Our collaboration with Mirics on FlexiTV is providing consumers a great solution that uses the GPU to optimize the PC for delivering broadcast TV. And FlexiStream is a great example of extending that experience even further.”
Mirics’ FlexiStream is currently sampling to selected partners, and will be demonstrated at the NVIDIA booth #35912 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from January 7th -10th.

World’s first software TV solution from Mirics ships in production volume
Mirics ramps inventory levels and grows team to meet demand for FlexiTV™ platform
Sunnyvale, CA. - January 4th, 2010: Mirics today announces it has commenced volume shipments of its software-based broadcast TV receiver, FlexiTV™, to its global customer base. FlexiTV rewrites the economics of supporting global standards broadcast reception on PC platform devices such as desktops, notebooks, and netbooks, by implementing the traditional silicon demodulation functionality in software. The ability to offer value-add features such as FlexiTV is especially attractive to PC manufacturers in the current economic climate, as they enable differentiation from competitor products at the lowest cost point.
Commenting on the announcement, Simon Atkinson, CEO Mirics, said: “Mirics was the first company in the world to announce a software-based TV receiver when it unveiled its FlexiTV technology in 2008. In the intervening period, the team has worked diligently to ensure that FlexiTV meets all of the quality and reliability expectations of customers. The resources and product innovation required to meet the challenges of developing a prototype platform into a qualified product meeting all relevant industry standards and certifications are frequently underestimated. In addition, Mirics also needed to address the greater-than-normal quality expectations of manufacturers previously sceptical to the viability of a software-based receiver. Today’s announcement is a clear statement that Mirics has addressed all these requirements.”
Atkinson continued: “Mirics is building significant product inventory to meet the larger than expected customer demand for FlexiTV in 2010. To support this demand and meet future needs, we have strengthened the global sales support team, including additional distribution channels in south east Asia, and have also added further engineering resources with a new development team in Asia.”
